The Cherries continue their pre-season preparations in their only friendly in Dorset this summer, as they host Genoa at the club’s performance centre this afternoon in a behind-closed-doors game. Bournemouth returned from a successful pre-season training camp in Austria after a 5-2 victory over Augsburg, following a 4-1 win against St Pauli earlier in the trip. Marco Rose was without Junior Kroupi, Julian Araujo, Tyler Adams, and Alvaro Rodriguez for the Augsburg game. Kroupi will be absent again, while Araujo will likely be missing. Adams was yet to return to the squad in training in Austria, having returned later due to the World Cup, so he may get his first minutes, while Rodriguez had a small knock so may also return. Boss Rose also indicated that Ryan Christie had something of a knee issue picked up during the game, so he may not be available either. Italy’s oldest existing football team, Genoa Cricket and Football Club were founded in 1893 to represent England abroad, with initially only English players allowed to join. The club principally participated in athletics and cricket at its formation, but four years later, the football team became an important part. They have won the league in Italy nine times, but none since the 1923-24 season, and one Coppa Italia, in 1936-37. Their current boss is former Italy international Daniele De Rossi, and they have previously been coached by the likes of Patrick Viera, Andriy Shevchenko, and Ivan Juric. So far this summer, Genoa have played three friendlies. They first beat Trento 2-1, before a 2-2 draw with LR Vicenza and a 1-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday. The Bournemouth game is their penultimate friendly before they get their season underway on August 22 against Napoli in the Serie A. Last season, Genoa finished 16th in the Italian top flight, staying clear of relegation by seven points. AFC Bournemouth host Genoa in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, August 4.
