A Bournemouth fan has described the 1997 bucket collection that saved the club from financial ruin as a 'momentous day' in its history. Glen Cox reflected on the emergency fundraiser, which was organised by the club's hierarchy as a last-ditch effort to avoid collapse.

Cox said supporters contributed whatever they could afford to the collection at the Winter Gardens. "It didn't feel like it at the time, but it was such a momentous day in Bournemouth's history," he said. The club had warned there was a very real chance it would cease to exist if the funds were not raised.

That act of survival underpins the club's current ambitions, which include preparing for Europa League football. The team currently sits 15th in the Premier League with three points from four games. Their recent form shows one win, three draws and one loss from the last five matches.

Bournemouth's next challenge is a home match against Liverpool on 20 September.
