Bournemouth were soundly beaten 5-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The heavy defeat extends their winless start to the Premier League season to six matches, leaving them 18th in the standings with just three points. Chelsea's victory moves them into the top half of the table.

Chelsea set a Premier League record by taking a two-goal lead inside the opening three minutes. Jordan Henderson, making his home debut after a summer move from Brentford, opened the scoring inside two minutes with a finish assisted by Cole Palmer. Morgan Rogers doubled the lead just a minute later, with Henderson turning provider.

Henderson's historic impact

Henderson, aged 36, added a spectacular second goal with a 25-yard free-kick in the 70th minute. That strike made him Chelsea's oldest Premier League goalscorer since John Terry in 2017. Joao Pedro also scored twice for the hosts, netting within a minute of the second-half restart and again five minutes after Bournemouth's consolation. Pedro's double takes him to the top of Chelsea's internal stats for goals this campaign.

Bournemouth's lone reply

Evanilson pulled a goal back for the Cherries in the 51st minute, finishing from a goalmouth scramble after a near-post corner. It was a brief moment of hope, but Chelsea's dominance was quickly restored. The result means Bournemouth have now conceded 13 goals this season, the joint-highest in the division.

Manager Alonso made three changes to the side that drew with Brentford, with Josh Acheampong, Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro coming into the starting lineup. Caicedo, returning from a calf injury, lasted 72 minutes before being replaced. The team was without Justin Kluivert and Eli Junior Kroupi, while Alex Scott missed out after exacerbating a thigh problem on international duty. Scott is now listed on the club's injuries page alongside long-term absentee Ryan Fredericks.

Four Bournemouth players were booked during the match: Tavernier, Truffert, Adams and Christie. The club's top scorer this season, Marcus Tavernier, who has three goals in six appearances, was unable to add to his tally. Manager Alonso told reporters after the game, "We didn't overcommit players forward but still maintained a threat in the final third. The start killed us." He confirmed the team would analyse the defensive errors before the next fixtures.

The defeat is Bournemouth's second consecutive league loss, following a 1-0 home defeat to Liverpool. Bournemouth's next match is at home to Sunderland on 18 October.

Bournemouth manager Marco Rose is under increasing pressure after the club's winless start to the Premier League season. Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown said any manager would face questions after six games without a win. Brown told reporters, "If this continues, Bournemouth will be forced to make a decision." The Cherries, 18th with three points, lost 5-1 at Chelsea in their last match.

Bournemouth must now turn their focus to a historic first home European game, manager Marco Rose said. The Cherries host Austrian side Sturm Graz in the Europa League on Thursday. The match will be played at 'Bournemouth Stadium' due to Uefa's ban on sponsor names. The club, 18th in the Premier League with three points, are winless in six league games. Rose told reporters, "There is little time to dwell on Saturday's nightmare defeat."
